World Day of Prayer for the Sick

Around the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of Prayer for the Sick, Mass is celebrated and the Sacrament of the Sick is offered to the sick, the frail and the handicapped in the Bridgeport Diocese. Two separate liturgies and receptions are held – one at Saint Aloysius Parish and the other at Blessed Sacrament
Parish, an inner city church.

Approximately 100 Area members make posters to distribute to diocesan churches, mail invitations and cards, make personal calls, visit the homebound and residents of nursing homes, and provide transportation for the disabled. Knights and Dames also volunteer as parking lot attendants, guides to bring malades into church, ushers and liturgical ministers. A reception follows Mass, where guests and their families are welcomed for simple food, drinks and community. The World Day of Prayer for the Sick is held twice a year, in February and in June.
