Eucharistic Ministry

01/01/2017

More than 70 Knights, Dames and Auxiliary serve as Eucharistic Ministers in 6 area hospitals and 6 nursing homes – Danbury, Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford, Greenwich and Silver Hill Hospital. All have an Order of Malta presence in their pastoral care and in many cases, they are the only Catholic representative in the health care facility. The following nursing homes are likewise staffed with Knights and Dames as Eucharistic Ministers: Nathaniel Witherell and Parsonage Cottage in Greenwich, St. Camillus in Stamford, St. Joseph’s Manor in Trumbell and Brightview Senior Living and Waveny Care Center in New Canaan.

Members of the Order of Malta bring Holy Communion to  400-500 patients in these facilities each week.  New members of the Order wishing to be Eucharistic Ministers participate in a 3-hour training class and are also asked to assist in their own parish as needed. A Morning of Renewal workshop is held annually for current ministers.
