This September, the Board of Councillors met in New York City for the third Board Meeting of 2017. Members of the Board were joined by H.E. Albrecht von Boeselager, Grand Chancellor of the Order of Malta. His Excellency addressed attendees in an afternoon discussion about the current state of the Order and the challenges in bringing about reform.
He later opened the floor for any questions from the Board Members. The Grand Chancellor provided attendees with informative responses to a variety of questions, with topics ranging from the public’s perspective on the Order and members of the First Class, to recruiting members and the Sovereign Council. In the evening, he joined the Association’s Area Chairs for dinner and an open discussion about the same issues addressed at the Board meeting.
Executive Directive Jeffrey Trexler said, “There was an open exchange at both meetings and the Grand Chancellor addressed every question with candor, completeness and sincerity. The meetings provided an opportunity for the leadership of the Association to hear directly from the Grand Chancellor. I believe all who attended felt that the time was well spent.”
The Association looks forward to the arrival of three members of the Order’s Government Council on their official visit to the American Association during the 2017 Investiture Weekend. During their stay, they will be looking at our operations as well as meeting with many of the Officers and Committee Chairs to help them understand the working of the American Association.
