The American, Federal, and Western Associations will sponsor our Eighth Annual Pilgrimage to Champion, Wisconsin to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help from Thursday, August 4 – Sunday, August 7, 2022. It’s wonderful to finally be able to get together once again and we invite all Knights, Dames, Chaplains, Auxiliary Members, Associate Members, Year of Formation Candidates, and their families to join us this summer. This is the Association’s first pilgrimage since the pandemic began and we expect it to fill up quickly, so please register as soon as possible.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help is the site of the only Marian apparition in the United States approved by the Catholic Church. Approval for the Shrine and its Chapel was received on December 8, 2010 from Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay, a Conventual Chaplain in the Order and our chaplain in the Northeast Wisconsin Area.
The Our Lady of Good Help Pilgrimage has been approved to meet the requirements for attendance at a Marian Pilgrimage during the year of formation or in the first three years of membership, in lieu of going to Lourdes. If you have never been to Lourdes, this is a unique opportunity to share in the experience of a Marian Shrine pilgrimage and to encounter the Love of the Blessed Mother and her Son, Jesus.
This beautiful, peaceful, and holy place provides every pilgrim the opportunity for spiritual renewal and healing. It is ideal for families and multi-generational groups, and for people who, because of age or physical conditions, may be unable to endure a more strenuous pilgrimage like Lourdes. The travel is shorter, the transportation from place to place is by bus, and it is in the summer when many schools are not in session.
Members of the Order may sponsor a sick or handicapped person to be considered as a potential Special Pilgrim. Members should not invite anyone; each candidate will be evaluated by the Special Pilgrim Selection Committee. All proposed candidates must be ambulatory. More information on how to propose a Special Pilgrim can be found further down in this email.
In a response to the message of Our Lady of Good Help “to teach the children of this wild country what they need to know for salvation” we have incorporated a special Youth Program, for pilgrims ages 8-17 years old, to bring the youth of the pilgrimage closer to Christ through the love of His Blessed Mother through prayer, service, and friendship.
The Youth Program will have a mentorship team of high school students that will mentor smaller groups of children ages 8-13. Each group will also have a Knight or a Dame guiding the children in their formation and serving. The Youth Program will focus on teaching the different forms of prayers and virtues. They will also serve together in groups, whether altar serving or serving Knights and Dames or Special Pilgrims. All youth that are participating in the SMOM Youth Program must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the Pilgrimage.
