Retreat Master

The 2022 Fall Retreat will be led by Fr. Eric Hollas, OSB, ChC. Fr. Eric is a Benedictine monk and priest of Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville, MN. Born in Oklahoma City, he received his B.A. in history at Princeton University. Following seminary studies at Saint John’s University (MN) he received the Ph.D. in medieval studies at Yale University.

Since 1980 he has been a member of the faculty and staff of Saint John’s University (MN), and for nine years served as executive director of the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library. For 40+ years that library has worked to preserve the archives of the Order of Malta, and today it is the largest such resource on the history of the Order outside of Malta. Fr. Eric was also instrumental in initiating The Saint John’s Bible, a project in which the monks of Saint John’s Abbey commissioned Donald Jackson, scribe to the Queen of England, to create a hand-written and illuminated Bible.

Fr. Eric serves as a conventual chaplain ad honorem in the Western Association of the Order of Malta and is the chief chaplain of the Subpriory of Our Lady of Philermo. He is in the tenth year of writing a weekly blog, which can be found at monkschronicle.wordpress.com.
