Answering the Call: Northeast Florida Area Hosts Vocations Pilgrimage

06/09/2026

Members of the Northeast Florida Area helped lead a meaningful day of prayer, service, and accompaniment as part of a Diocesan Vocations Weekend for seminarians and young men discerning the priesthood.

At the request of the Diocese of St. Augustine, the Order of Malta supported a vocations pilgrimage along a portion of the Baby Steps Camino® beach route. Knights and Dames were present before dawn to welcome the pilgrims, provide breakfast, distribute backpacks with snacks and drinks, and assist with transportation to the starting point.

The pilgrimage itself was a powerful witness of faith and perseverance. Accompanied by members of the Order and clergy, the group walked ten miles along the beach at daybreak, ultimately arriving at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche for the celebration of Holy Mass at the outdoor Rustic Altar.

Following Mass, participants were welcomed with a hot lunch prepared and served by Knights and Dames, rounding out a day marked by hospitality, prayer, and encouragement.

Through this effort, the Northeast Florida Area reaffirmed its commitment to supporting priestly vocations—standing ready to serve the Church and accompany those discerning a call to the priesthood.
