Members of the NYC Area helped the Sisters of Life move a young pregnant woman into her new apartment.
Last week, a Sister of Life texted Michael Smilek, KM with a request. A new housing opportunity appeared for a young mother-to-be, but she needed help with the move.
From truck rentals and packing costs to item replacements and time off from work, moving costs can add up quickly, especially for pregnant women trying to save their finances for their future children. Scheduling can be difficult, too, and if a mother-to-be cannot find a friend or relative to help with a move, she can face a large challenge trying to move heavy boxes while pregnant.
Fortunately, the Sisters of Life and the NYC Area Mobile Ministry was able to help. Eric Vitale, KM, joined Michael, and they met the pregnant woman with a Coworker of Life, a third-order volunteer of the Sisters of Life. The woman showed the volunteers her belongings, and they moved her boxes and bags down the stairs and into the van.
Then, the woman asked if they could also move her air conditioning unit. With the temperature at 102 degrees Fahrenheit, how could they say no!
Everyone rode together in the van, and they shared happy memories and excitement for the future. After the move, the young woman thanked everyone—not only for their help, but for their prayers. Even when times are difficult, faith and community support can make all the difference.
