On Monday, September 28, Archbishop Hicks made his first visit to ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in East Harlem. After touring the facility with ArchCare CEO Scott LaRue, KM, Archbishop Hicks celebrated Mass in an overflowing auditorium filled with residents, family members, and staff. Several members of the NYC Area participated in the Mass and helped escort residents to and from their rooms, similar to our weekly TCC Sunday Mass Ministry.
The Mass was especially joyful and lively, with beautiful singing accompanied by several musicians and enthusiastic applause from the residents after each hymn. In his bilingual homily, Archbishop Hicks shared that he had recently returned from St. Louis, where he joined some 50,000 faithful for the Beatification Mass of now-Blessed Fulton Sheen. He offered a brief biography of Archbishop Sheen, recalling his extraordinary evangelization through radio and the then-new medium of television, and encouraged the congregation to follow Blessed Sheen’s example by always keeping God first in their lives.
At the conclusion of Mass, Scott LaRue warmly welcomed and thanked Archbishop Hicks for his visit, which highlighted the important work taking place at TCC and celebrated the people who deliver such compassionate care at TCC each day.
The NYC Area was honored to participate in this wonderful celebration of faith, community, and service.
