Readings

The following readings should be a part of the material you review during your year of preparation or as a reference for your spiritual and intellectual growth.

  1. Regulations and Commentary (PDF): This book written at the Sovereign Magistry and approved by the Grand Master and the Sovereign Council is a basic primer on the rules and regulations of the Order. It contains history, background and clear explanations of many of the facets of the Order of Malta.
  2. Constitution and Code of the Order (PDF): This is the complete and unabridged version of the Order’s Rules and Regulations.
  3. Chaplains’ education essays: These essays are part of an educational series being prepared by the Chaplains of the Order to provide deeper insight into important topics related to the Order, to spirituality and to specific topics that should be of interest to members. This link will take you to all of the essays which are currently available.
  4. The Catechism of the Catholic ChurchThis is a basic text for members of the Catholic Church. While not necessarily intended to be read from cover to cover in one sitting, it is an important reference book for every Catholic. You should read it in whatever mode works for you but over time, you should read the complete book.The following readings address the role of the laity within the Church and are required readings during the year of preparation:

  10. The Bible (New American Bible translation)
  11. A Catholic Prayer Book: There are many prayer books available. You have received or will receive a prayer book developed by the Federal Association, designed for members of the Order.
