New Jersey Knights, Dames and Auxiliary marked the World Day of Prayer of the Poor by spending Saturday, November 17th, at their apostolate to the homeless in Newark. Seven members of the Order managed the soup kitchen at St. Ann’s, serving over 170 meals to the poor and displaced.
The Order also operated its ID Program which assists the homeless, poor and recently paroled obtain official Essex County ID Cards, without which they cannot take jobs or receive government benefits. Since its inception in 2013, the Program has helped almost 1,000 people to obtain IDs. On Saturday, the five Knights and Dames manning the Program, also at St. Ann’s, processed 12 additional applications.
