  • Bringing the Gift Shop to Residents with the Gift Shop Trolley Cart — any afternoon or early evening
  • One-to-One visits with Residents — any day of the week between 10am-8pm. This could include general visits, as well as assisting Residents with mail, reading correspondence or books, or playing games in Residents’ rooms.
  • Working with the Resident Recreation Program (transporting residents and assisting with arts and crafts, beading, cards, Bingo and other special programs) — Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday Afternoons from 2-4pm
  • Bartending or Socializing with Residents in the Emerald Lounge — Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 2-4pm or 6-7pm (the Emerald Lounge has had limited operation since Covid restrictions have lifted and MMW would like to expand its hours of operation as reflected here)
  • Assisting with the Library Cart — 7 Days a Week
  • Lectoring at Saturday or Sunday 10:30am Mass
  • Playing the Organ at Mass

Your volunteering hours can be flexible and any help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, Mary Manning Walsh’s volunteering numbers are well below pre-Covid levels and the residents could really use our assistance and support.

There is a NY State Volunteer Application requirement that involves some medical information and immunization requirements, along with other general information. Please note, all of the ArchCare facilities have recently lifted the onsite Covid testing requirements.

If you are interested or have questions about the volunteer opportunities or application requirements, please contact Steve Bujno, KM (stevebujno1@gmail.com) or Joe Mangan, Year of Formation (jhmangan@gmail.com).

Volunteer with Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens

We are pleased to announce that there are several new volunteer opportunities weekdays and Saturdays with Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens. Please read to the bottom of this announcement for the new Saturday volunteer opportunities.

55 Pierrepont St., Brooklyn, NY, 11201

Volunteers are needed who are willing to help with the 55 Pierrepont St. Resource Center on Monday and Thursday each week. CCBQ will have a consumer choice food pantry along with the thrift store. Volunteers are needed from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (select your hours) on those two days. The volunteers will assist in keeping the pantry stocked and assisting the clients so they can move along.

The 55 Pierrepont St. Resource Center will also have a kitchen that volunteers can use to make hot meals for the community in need. If CCBQ has a team of volunteers, they will gladly purchase the food needed to make prepared meals for CCBQ clients who live in shelters.

It would be helpful, but not required, if volunteers can speak French, Spanish, Arabic or Chinese as well as English.

191 Joralemon St., Brooklyn, NY 11201

Volunteers are needed Tuesday and Wednesday between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM (select your hours) to pack food, toiletries, and clothing for distribution to migrants. Also the volunteers can interact with the migrants and provide them with the food, toiletries, and clothing.

Ability to speak Spanish, Creole or French would be very helpful, but not required.
