The American Association Prison Ministry Committee recently launched a monthly email newsletter that highlights the many Prison Ministry programs throughout the Association. Divided into three sections, the newsletter is designed to provide insights into Area programs; member involvement; and, most importantly, the impact of the many and varied programs on those being served. The sections are:
Hands-on Pastoral Ministry
Our members are involved in a wide range of pastoral ministry outreach, from regular liturgies and prayer services, weekend retreats, to reentry programs. We will share informative stories of how our members serve current and former inmates both inside and outside the walls of jails and prisons.
Bible and Prayer Book Distribution Program
For years the Order of Malta Prison Ministry Program has been distributing Order of Malta Bibles and Prayer Books printed in both English and Spanish. In this section, we will look at the members, chaplains, and friends collaborating on this program as well as the encouraging feedback from inmates on the receiving end of this service.
Pen Pal Program
This section will explore the growing Order of Malta Pen Pal program. We’ll look at member experiences, how members became involved, the exchanges with inmates, and the heartfelt impact on inmates from this creative and personal outreach effort.
