In 2020, the Order of Malta, American Association launched our historic Called to Serve capital campaign, which will transform our ability to sustain and advance our ministries for generations to come. And now we are counting on YOU to get involved.

Our campaign emphasizes one simple idea: We Are All Called to Serve. As we all know from experiences gleaned through our hands-on work, great things are best accomplished when we join together in concerted effort.

The Called to Serve capital campaign is the first fundraising campaign the American Association has ever conducted.  The Campaign seeks to raise $20 million. Through this historic campaign, we aspire to 1) double the annual grant capacity of the Malta Human Services Foundation in support of the American Association’s local, national, and international works, and 2) increase the assets of the Pilgrimage Foundation to a level at which the income generated by the endowment will cover the costs for all Malades and Caregivers participating in the Lourdes Pilgrimage in perpetuity.

To date, we have already secured over $16 million in philanthropic gifts and commitments.  We hope to raise the remaining $4 million by December 2023.

Since the founding of the Order of Malta in the eleventh century, the mission of the Order has been to care for the poor and the sick. Today, in the twenty-first century, that mission remains as relevant, or more so, than at its founding, because of the growing numbers of people living in poverty and suffering from illness. 

As we look ahead, we hope to secure our legacy of caring for the sick and the poor and giving witness to our faith to be able to do more, and so we consider ways to enable a greater effect on the work that unites us with those whom Jesus called to Himself. The Called to Serve capital campaign asks each of us to take stock of where we are in our journey, and to consider how we can do more with the resources of time, talent, and treasure that we have been given.
