Members of the Order Welcome Archduke of Austria

On Thursday, March 30th, Several members of the Order were pleased to attend an inspiring presentation on the life of Blessed Emperor Karl, the last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and his wife and Servant of God, Empress and Queen Zita. Blessed Karl was a Bailiff Grand Cross of Honor and Devotion in the Order of Malta. Their grandson, Christian, gave insight and a unique perspective on his family, prominent members of the Habsburg and the Bourbon – Parma families. Archduke Christian shared endearing personal anecdotes, historical insights, and his unique perspective as  a member of the Habsburg-Lorraine family. The presentation was at the historic Ivy Hall, and sponsored by the International Institute for Culture, the Neumann Forum.

 

Philadelphia Knights and Dames Attend Lenten Retreat

On Saturday, April 1st, Knights and Dames from Philadelphia Area gathered for our annual Lenten Retreat. We started with Saturday Salve Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Michael Phelan, O. de M., was the principal celebrant of Holy Mass, which was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Overbrook Philadelphia, Father Justin Beerman, O. de M., and Father Matthew Biedrzycki, parochial vicar for the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, concelebrated. Immediately following continental breakfast, Father Biedrzycki gave a morning reflection, heard confessions, and ended the retreat with another powerful presentation. We were very grateful for the opportunity to avail ourselves of the Sacrament of reconciliation.

 

Philadelphia Area Hosts Afternoon of Action in Service to Our Lords, the Afflicted

On Saturday afternoon, April 1st, Knights and Dames from Philadelphia attended an evocative presentation on anti-human trafficking efforts presented by Deborah O’Hara-Rusckowski, DM, and Father Michael Scanlon. The title of their presentation was, “Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative of the United Nations”, presented by Deborah O’Hara-Rusckowski, DM, Special Advisor to the Ambassador on Human Trafficking for the Mission of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations.
