On Wednesday April 19th, members of the NYC Area volunteered at the Specialty Hospital for Children at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Center in Manhattan. The Specialty Hospital provides comprehensive medical care for children and young adults with profound neurological impairments and other complex medical conditions.
The NYC Area members assisted the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinators with tactile therapy for the residents. The volunteers then participated in a resident birthday party celebration, providing lively music and singing.
Volunteering at the Specialty Hospital is extremely flexible, with morning and afternoon opportunities available 7 days a week. The Specialty Hospital unfortunately lost a number of volunteers due to COVID and is looking to increase its volunteer ranks – any help is greatly appreciated.
