In honor of the upcoming feast day of the Order of Malta’s Patron Saint, Saint John the Baptist, members of the New York City and Westchester Areas gathered for Mass on Thursday, June 22nd in the chapel at the Mary Manning Walsh Residence.
Mass was celebrated by Most Reverend Bishop Edmund Whalen, ChC, assisted by Fr. Joseph Cavoto, OFM, ChM; Fr. John Anderson of Archcare; and Deacon Jack Shea, ChDD. Also on the altar was Frá Nicola Tegoni, Regent of the SubPriory of Our Lady of Lourdes.
As the 22nd was also the feast of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, Bishop Whalen’s homily drew multiple comparisons to the lives and deaths of all three saints and their commitments to Christ and our faith.
After Mass, a lovely reception was hosted by Archcare for the Order and its volunteers. MMW Residence is one of two Archcare institutions (the other is Terence Cardinal Cooke Healthcare Center) where NYC Area members actively volunteer. Our thanks to Scott LaRue KM, CEO of Archcare, for arranging the reception.
