On October 12, 2023 the Northeast Florida Area participated in the Closing Mass for the Diocesan phase of the Cause for Beatification of Antonio Injia and Companions, totaling 58 Martyrs in all, including native Americans, Franciscan and Jesuit Missionaries, Spanish soldiers, women and children. The Case documents were sworn and subscribed by the Bishop and appropriate officials and forwarded to the Dicastery in Rome for further action. The Mass and Ceremonies were held in an outdoor Mass near Tallahassee, Florida, where it is believed some of the chief martyrs perished for their Faith between 1549 and 1715. The Martyrs of La Florida died largely in defense of the Eucharist, particularly timely in light of our worldwide Eucharistic Revival. The Mass was offered by local ordinary Bishop William Wack of the Diocese of Tallahassee-Pensacola, joined by Archbishop Thomas Wenski, Bishop Eric Pohlmeier, Bishop Gregory Parkes, and Bishop Robert Baker.
