Connecticut – Southern, Western and Northern Area Members Host Three Kings Celebration

01/09/2024

On January 7th, The Order of Malta CT Area – SWN, in Partnership with Catholic Charities of  Fairfield County and Al’s Angels, celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany with St Peter’s Parish in Bridgeport, CT.Just as the Three Kings recognized God among us by welcoming the Christ Child as the Holy Family fled to Egypt to escape the brutality of King Herod, so did the Order of Malta welcome and celebrate many displaced and vulnerable people in Bridgeport.  The celebration began with celebrating Mass together. After Mass, more than 360 people gathered in the Parish Hall, where the Order of Malta provided gold King crowns for the children to decorate, Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings Cake) with a hidden Baby Jesus tucked inside the cake for children to find, warm coats, gloves and hats provided by Catholic Charities of Fairfield County and many toys provided by the Knights and Dames of Malta, Al’s Angels and St. Mary Parish in Ridgefield that were distributed to nearly 200 children. The Order of Malta CT – SWN is grateful for the assistance of the American Association of the Order of Malta, who underwrote the cost of food and party supplies for this Feast of the Epiphany Celebration through funds raised during the 2023 Investiture weekend. The Journey of refugees and displaced people is never easy, as people are forced to leave their beloved homes due to persecution, unrest, and violence. In Bridgeport, CT, on January 7th, community, camaraderie, and, most of all, love was abundant and brought people together in a mutual faith in Jesus Christ.
