Michigan Area Opens 2024 with First Saturday at Detroit’s Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament

01/09/2024

The Michigan Area opened the new year with a well-attended First Saturday observance on January 6th at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit.

Thirty-five Dames, Knights, Auxiliaries, and family members attended. Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Michael LeFevre, the Michigan Area’s chaplain, pastor of St. Owen Catholic Church in Bloomfield Hills, and a former rector of the Cathedral.

While the Michigan Area has long observed First Saturdays with Mass, followed by Lectio Divina, the January 6th event included the opportunity for Confession and recitation of the Rosary, to offer the full First Saturday devotion Our Lady requested of Fatima seer Sr. Lucia.

The First Saturday devotion consists of Confession, reception of Holy Communion, recitation of the Rosary, and 15 minutes’ meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary, all with the intention of making reparation for offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our Lady promised to assist all those who practice the devotion on five consecutive First Saturdays with the graces necessary for salvation at the hour of death.

After Mass, a light breakfast was provided by Michael Bonventre, KM, and Susan Bonventre, DM, members of the Michigan Area’s Hospitality Ministry.

The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament is the seat of the Archbishop of Detroit, Most Rev. Allen Vigneron, ChC, and the home church of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
