Scranton Area Celebrates St. John the Baptist

06/26/2024

On Saturday, June 22nd, members of the Scranton Area celebrated the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the patron of our Order. Attendees began the day at St. Paul’s Church with Confessions at 1PM, followed by Rosary led by co-chair Dr. Dennis Dawgert, who read reflections of Venerable Patrick Peyton one of the local priests and religious that are advancing toward Sainthood.

Father Pio Mandato, a Capuchin hermit and relative of Padre Pio, concelebrated Healing Mass with local chaplain Monsignor Neil van Loon. Mass was followed by the Blessing of the Sick in a traditional anointing with oil, as well as an additional blessing with a stigmata worn glove from Saint Padre Pio.

Members in attendance wore their Lourdes work uniforms to illustrate their service to the sick. After the Mass, Malades and their families, Knights, Dames, and prospective members of the Order enjoyed dinner together in the University of Scranton’s Rose Room of Brennan Hall. Members shared memories of our pilgrimages to Lourdes, France and Champion, Wisconsin.
