On Sunday, November 24th, the South West Connecticut Area participated in its first Malta Walk in Bridgeport, CT with the Missionaries of Charity. Thanks to a generous donation from a friend of the Order of Malta, the Area purchased 96 Order of Malta Coats from the Australia Association. These coats are designed by homeless men and women, and thousands of coats are manufactured each year and brought to cities throughout Australia for distribution in their Coats for the Homeless program.
Seventy-two coats were distributed to the homeless in Bridgeport at two transport stations. Along with the coats, guests were given a hot meal prepared by another group of people that work with the Missionaries of Charity. 24 coats remain and will be distributed to the Thomas Merton Family Center and New Covenant Center as part of the Winter Clothing Drive after Christmas.
We plan on continuing this ministry. Please let us know if you would be interested in participating, and if you feel like donating money for a coat, blankets or warm clothes to our brother and sisters in Bridgeport, Stamford and Danbury, please click here to support us.
