Thousands of hot meals, prepared from scratch by Michigan Area members, warmed bodies and hearts of Detroiters in need this past year.
Organized by Michigan Area Hospitaller Kathleen Mastrangelo, DM, teams of Michigan Area volunteers worked at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen on 23 Fridays in 2024, serving a total of about 3,500 lunches. Michigan Area volunteers work at the soup kitchen on the second and fourth Fridays of each month (and on fifth Fridays when they occur). The soup kitchen serves about 30,000 lunches annually to the hungry, isolated, and lonely in the community.
Most recently, on December 13, Michigan Area members prepared and served about 100 lunches of chicken breast, served over rice, accompanied by salad and fresh fruit.
Participants on December 13 included Carolyn Andree, DM; Dale Chiara, KM; David and Noel Close, Members in Formation; Chuck Gaidica, Member in Formation; Rev. Mr. Dom Pastore, KM; Alan Wegienka, KM, and Angie Wegienka, DM; and Barbara Wilson, DM, and Robert Wilson, KM.
