Michigan Area joins Archdiocese of Detroit’s June 22 Corpus Christi Mass, Eucharistic Procession

06/26/2025

In keeping with a long-standing tradition, Michigan Area members attended the Archdiocese of Detroit’s Corpus Christi celebration on June 22 at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. And – despite scorching, near-record summer heat – they also joined the outdoor Eucharistic procession that followed.

Mass was celebrated by the Most Rev. Edward J. Weisenburger, archbishop of Detroit. As he began his homily, the archbishop recognized the Michigan Area: ”So good to have the Knights and Dames of the Order of Malta here. Your roots go into healthcare ministries, the way that you are the hands, the voice, the very feet bringing the message of Christ. Thank you for your presence.”

Dames and Knights, who wore capes and robes during Mass, took off those garments for the Eucharistic procession on Woodward Avenue, instead wearing the approved summer uniform for pilgrimages to Our Lady of Champion: White shirt with Order of Malta patch and black pants for Knights, and for Dames, white shirt, black skirt or pants, and red Order of Malta scarf.

Following the Mass and procession, the archbishop joined Michigan Area members and others at the grand re-opening of the new Center for the Works of Mercy – just across the street from the Cathedral – where the Malta Dental and Medical Clinic is housed.
