Michigan Area members prepare over 100 lunches at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen

08/14/2025

On August 8, Michigan Area members prepared over 100 lunches for those in need at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen in Detroit.

Organized by Michigan Area Hospitaller Kathleen Mastrangelo, DM, teams of Michigan Area volunteers work at the soup kitchen on the second and fourth Fridays of each month (and on fifth Fridays when they occur). Located in the People’s Community Church, St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen serves about 30,000 lunches annually to the hungry, isolated, and lonely in the community.

Volunteering at the August 8 lunch service were Dr. Lourdes Andaya, DM; Mark Thut; Mary Thut; and Kathy Trupiano, DM, working under the direction of soup kitchen Chef/Manager Dominic French. The lunch offerings included pasta with meat sauce, tuna-noodle casserole, chicken with mushroom sauce, Mexican-style vegetables, roast potatoes, green salad, and dessert.
