On Monday, September 8th, over 100 New York City Area Dames, Knights, Affiliates and friends celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Philermo in the Lady Chapel of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Bishop Paul Sanchez, D.D., ChC was the principal celebrant. Concelebrants included Msgr. Robert Ritchie, GCChC, Chief Chaplain of the American Association; NYC Area Chaplain Rev. Gerald Murray, ChM, JCD; and Rev. Sean Sukiel. During his homily, Bishop Sanchez spoke about the history and relevance of the icon of Our Lady of Philermo.
The beautiful music of the liturgy was performed by three gifted string musicians, with NYC Area Co-Chair Eric Vitale, KM leading the singing. The Mass was also an opportunity for the NYC Area to welcome the American Association’s new Executive Director, Cathy Demeroto.
At the conclusion of Mass, we processed to the main altar of St. Patrick’s, where Bishop Sanchez led the congregation in veneration of a relic of the newest saint, St. Carlo Acutis. Guests then shared fellowship, food and drinks at a festive reception on the terrace of St. Patrick’s.
