Michigan Area holds September First Saturday – with baby!

09/11/2025

Despite following the Labor Day weekend, the Michigan Area’s September 6 First Saturday was well attended – and even included a new baby!

The event was held at St. Owen Catholic Church in Bloomfield Hills, where Michigan Area chaplain Msgr. Michael LeFevre, ChM, is pastor.

In keeping with the Michigan Area’s usual custom, the First Saturday included the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and recitation of the Rosary, to offer the full First Saturday devotion.

Barbara Wilson, DM, and Robert Wilson, KM, led the Rosary. Confessions were heard by Rev. John Maksym, who is in formation to enter the Order as a chaplain. Msgr. LeFevre celebrated Mass, with Fr. Maksym concelebrating and giving the homily.

Readings at Mass were proclaimed by Mark Thut and John Trupiano, KM. Stephanie Le, DM, and Associate Ky Cam offered the Prayers of the Faithful. Area Chair Andy Smith, KM, led the group in the Daily Prayer of the Order.

After Mass, a light breakfast was provided by Stephanie Le and Ky Cam, members of the Michigan Area’s Hospitality Ministry. Lectio Divina followed, led by Msgr. LeFevre.

Making the First Saturday a true family event, Sean Shriner, KM, and his wife, Auxiliary Jenna Shriner, brought their son Noah and newborn daughter Emma, who wore a knit hat with the Order’s emblem. Noah was baptized at a Michigan Area First Saturday in 2024. See, “A Family Affair: Son of Michigan Area members baptized at Area’s First Saturday.”

Following the First Saturday, Michigan Area members went into the city of Detroit to distribute lunches to those living on the streets. (See “Michigan Area’s September 6 ‘Into the Fire’ takes food, prayers to Detroit streets.”)

The Area’s next First Saturday is also its annual symposium, set for October 4 at the Solanus Casey Center in Detroit. The featured speaker will be renowned appellate attorney John Bursch, an Associate in the Michigan Area. He has successfully argued cases before many appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. The topic will be “Beyond Dobbs: What’s next for pro-life Catholics now that Roe v Wade has been overturned.”
