Long Island Area Members Attend White Mass and Blessed Karl Mass

10/22/2025

Members of the Long Island Area orecently participated in two meaningful liturgical events that highlighted the Order’s commitment to faith, service, and community. These gatherings offered opportunities to honor healthcare professionals and reflect on the legacy of one of the Order’s most revered members.

The White Mass was celebrated by our Conventual Chaplain ad honorem, Bishop John Barres. This special liturgy honors Catholic physicians, nurses, and all healthcare professionals. Named for the traditional white coats worn by medical staff—symbolizing purity and healing—the White Mass recognizes the sacred vocation of those who care for the sick and suffering. The Church asks God’s blessing on their work and renews their commitment to serving life with compassion and integrity.

The Blessed Karl Mass took place at St. Rocco’s Church and was celebrated by Dom Daniel of the Canons Regular of St. Augustine. Blessed Karl of Austria (1887–1922), the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, was also a Knight of the Order of Malta. He embodied the Order’s ideals of faith, service, and defense of Christian values. His reign was marked by a deep commitment to peace and justice, and his spiritual life reflected the knightly mission of defending the faith, protecting the poor, and promoting reconciliation. Even in exile and personal suffering, Blessed Karl remained faithful to his vocation as a Catholic sovereign and member of the Order.
