Webster’s Dictionary defines a pilgrim as one who travels to a shrine or holy place as a devotee. And indeed, joining the Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes is that – and so much more. This is not only a voyage in the literal sense but also a journey of the heart and spirit.
In the context of the theme chosen by the Lourdes Sanctuary: Hail, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee, we would like to add : Come, stay awhile – Viens, reste un peu. (The latter being our personal nod to the French language.) But we hope it also emphasizes what Mary is asking of all of us: to allow our souls to be quieted, to listen to her messages and to turn our attention to her Son. It is also what she asked of Bernadette Soubirous almost 168 years ago.
Every pilgrimage is different as is the experience for each pilgrim, be they a member of the Order of Malta, a priest or deacon, a volunteer, a malade or a caregiver. Our Lady reaches out in so many ways to encourage us to follow her Son. There are many quiet moments in prayer during beautiful Masses, reflections and rosaries. There are also more boisterous moments during the nightly receptions, the meals and the seemingly endless processions to and from the Domaine. Our Lady is present throughout, and she encourages us all to see the face of her Son in those around us.
We are so honored to be the Co-Hosts of the 2026 Lourdes Pilgrimage, as this will be our 15th Pilgrimage! But, as mentioned earlier, each Pilgrimage has been different, and each one has been filled with many blessings. If you’ve never participated, we strongly encourage you to join us next year.
Although the weather may not always be perfect – we’ve had everything from heat waves to sleet – nor may the food always be to your liking, but the moments when your heart and soul are touched will be the treasures of a lifetime. For those of you who cannot join us in person, we invite you to be with us in spirit. Registration for the 2026 Lourdes Pilgrimage opens after Investiture Weekend.
