New Jersey Area Malta Walk: Serving the Homeless on World Day of the Poor in Paterson

11/22/2025

On Sunday, November 16, in recognition of World Day of the Poor, the New Jersey Area assembled and distributed 50 relief and care bags to individuals experiencing homelessness in the Paterson community.

The Malta Walk began at St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church and continued through Paterson, concluding at the Father English Center. The Malta Mobile Van helped facilitate the distribution, with logistical support from Fr. Alex Nevitt, ChD. We were blessed to have Fr. Owen Moran, ChM, join us, along with one of our Year of Formation candidates and a new Auxiliary member.

Along the way, we were deeply moved by the people we met—Jim, Lauren, Harry, Tim, Freddy, Marcos, to name a few. Each care bag was thoughtfully prepared to meet immediate needs and provide comfort. The contents included:

  • Toiletries
  • Warm waterproof gloves
  • A hat and socks
  • A twin blanket
  • Food items

This walk was a powerful reminder of our mission to serve the poor and the sick with dignity and compassion.
