On Tuesday, December 9, Knights, Dames, Auxiliary and Volunteers led the Christmas Edition of our Monthly Service Work: Late Knight Karaoke at the Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home (MMW). This monthly program, now in it’s second year, has become a fixture in the NYC Area.
Many residents of MMW frequently long for the company and friendship that members of our Order bring. And for those residents who do receive visitors, it is a wonderful way for families to spend time together in a social setting outside of their specific patient room.
Additionally, this program serves as a great entry point of service for young volunteers who may be tentative about their first time serving a medical facility. This month saw the entire Order of Malta team dress in full Christmas cheer and serve up hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies along with our usual beer, wine a soft drinks. Christmas Cards made at this year’s White Cross Ball where delivered to all the residents.
After dozens of Christmas favorites and running overtime, the team sang a rousing rendition of “The Christmas Song” to bid all a good night. We’ll see you all next month, and every second Tuesday of each month bringing joy to those at Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home.
