On November 23rd, Connecticut – South West Area volunteers distributed 96 coats to individuals experiencing homelessness in Bridgeport. This meaningful outreach was a powerful expression of compassion as we prepared our hearts for the Thanksgiving season. These coats are especially unique because they are designed by the unhomed, for the unhomed, and include everything needed in a coat: a black, three-quarter-length coat with a hood that is quilted, warm, waterproof, comfortable and easy to carry. The black color was intentionally chosen to be inconspicuous, as many shared that their greatest fear is being assaulted in alleys and parks. The coats also feature hidden internal pockets to safely store valuables and are designed for mobility, allowing for ease of movement in emergency situations. Additionally, they can be easily layered, making them practical for use across multiple seasons.

This initiative, in partnership with the Missionaries of Charity, reflects the dignity, safety and respect that every person deserves. If you are interested in learning more about these thoughtfully designed coats and the mission behind them, please visit www.blessedrthey.org
