Despite 20-degree weather, Michigan Area members took to the streets of Detroit on the afternoon of January 3 to bring the homeless food and warm clothing.

Organized by John Juriga, KM, and Sean Shriner, KM, “Into the Fire” volunteers drive to Detroit’s poorest and most devastated areas in the Malta Mobile Ministries Van, seeking the homeless where they live. In addition to providing food, clothing, and other supplies, the volunteers also pray with the people they serve, upon request.

The “Into the Fire” team for January 3 included John Juriga; Auxiliary Andrew Bondy; David Closs, KM, and Noel Closs, DM; Dr. Dan Reddy, Member in Formation; and Michigan Area Chair Andy Smith, KM. Food and clothing were donated by Mike Bonventre, KM, and Sue Bonventre, DM; David and Noel Closs; Denise Greenway, Member in Formation; and Deacon Dom Pastore, KM.
Before setting out, the group recited the Association’s new Service Prayer. (See “At Michigan Area’s Advent Mass, ‘Christ’s third coming’ heralded; Order’s Service Prayer debuts.”)
“Into the Fire” operates every first Saturday and on other days when volunteers and supplies are available.
