A Michigan Knight may have moved some 1,500 miles when he relocated to Montana, but his commitment to the prolife cause – and the Order of Malta – hasn’t changed.
Rob Sisson, KM, recently participated in the 19th Annual Bozeman March for Life, held on January 31. Although a longtime supporter of right to life groups, this was Rob’s first time at the Bozeman rally, which was attended by about 200 people.
“I was very impressed with the high percentage of Montana State University students participating,” Rob observes. “The Students for Life chapter is vibrant on campus.”
Rob wants to raise the Order’s profile in his adopted state – not an easy task. In addition to being the lone Knight of the Order of Malta at the Bozeman march, Rob also just might be the only member of the American Association living full-time in Montana. He speculates that some part-time residents may be members of the American Association, but he has not encountered them yet.
“There is not much awareness of the Order in Montana,” Rob reports. “There is one member of the Order from another Association who lives part-time in Big Sky, and we did have a malade from Big Sky included in last year’s Lourdes Pilgrimage, where he had a deep spiritual experience.”
That malade’s pastor, seeing the effect of the pilgrimage on his parishioner, is now interested in the Order becoming more active in the parish and surrounding community, Rob adds.
Rob is working to increase awareness of the Order. “My hope is we can coordinate an annual White Mass [for those in healthcare]. With Bozeman having a medical school affiliated with the University of Washington, and two hospitals, Bozeman would be a fitting location to hold a White Mass.”
