NYC Malta Walks Reaches Those in Need

03/26/2026

Members and Affiliates of the NYC Area and many volunteers gathered at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on the evening of Wednesday, March 18 for Malta Walks. Thanks to our collaborate outreach with YCP and Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 10 new volunteers joined our Members for this month’s activity. Fr. Luigi Portarulo began with a Mass in the Cathedral Sacristy Chapel and gave a blessing before the team assembled to prepare bags of food, hygiene supplies, hats and gloves.

On street corners, in doorways, and in the subway, many homeless neighbors were greeted with care packages. Opening conversation with each we encounter: “What’s your name?”; “Would you like something to eat?”; “May we pray for you in some way?”; “How are you tonight?”; in this way, we seek to recognize their integral human dignity. We do this, recalling always that Jesus is uniquely present in the marginalized, suffering, and needful.

The group gathered afterwards, at a local bar for a post St. Patrick’s Day toast. Malta Walks gathers again at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15th at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Parish House and every third Wednesday of the Month. Volunteers may register in advance for more information here.
