On Saturday, April 11, during the Octave of Easter, Knights and Dames of the Philadelphia Area welcomed guests to join them for Saturday Salve Mass and their monthly service project at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Philadelphia.
Father Matthew Phelan, O. de M., pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, served as principal celebrant, with Father Justin Freeman, O. de M., and Father Joseph Eddy, O. de M., concelebrating. One particularly meaningful moment was chanting the Easter Sequence before the Gospel, a cherished tradition and a special favorite of Father Matthew’s.
Following Mass, participants gathered for brunch, shared prayer, and held a brief business meeting. Knights and Dames preparing for next month’s Pilgrimage to Lourdes spoke about the journey, offering moving reflections on how powerful the experience can be for malades, caregivers, and members alike. Guests greatly appreciated the insight and heartfelt passion shared during the discussion. The group also reviewed plans for future events, including a semi quincentennial field trip, upcoming ordinations, and other activities.
After praying the Prayer of Our Order and the new service prayer, members donned their aprons and joyfully set to work, preparing delicious meals for shut‑ins. Many in the Philadelphia Area now deliver these meals regularly, extending this ministry through personal acts of care for our Lords, the sick and the poor.
Meeting during the Easter Octave made the day especially meaningful, and it was truly a blessed gathering for all who took part.
