The Boston Area Order of Malta Mass Cards provide a wonderful opportunity to offer prayers for a loved one. Masses may be said for someone who is ill, bringing comfort and hope, or for someone who has passed, bringing solace to family.
The cards arrange for prayers in two ways. First, Masses are offered by a Missionary of the Society of African Missions. Additionally, the Mass enrollment forms (which have the recipient information) are brought with members of the Order of Malta on our annual trip to Lourdes, where they are left in the Grotto of the Virgin Mary.
“We know miracles take place at Lourdes,” said Jack MacKinnon, KM, Treasurer, Boston Area. Jack, pictured above, has managed the Mass Card Program for the past five years. “By bringing the enrollment forms with us when our members make the annual Pilgrimage each spring, we bring those prayers to Lourdes.”
The Boston Area Mass Cards are available to all members of the Order, whether from Boston or elsewhere, as well as the general public. JoAnne Kuehner, DM, who divides her time between Pennsylvania and Florida, sends the cards regularly. “I have opportunities to buy other Mass cards, but they don’t compare to these,” she said. “They are really beautiful.”
To obtain a card, click here to visit the Boston Area on the American Association website. You can also contact Jack MacKinnon at 781.749.6582. There is no payment at the time you place the order. You will receive a beautiful, red leatherette booklet with a picture of the Blessed Mother statue in the Grotto at Lourdes. Enclosed will be the enrollment form. Fill out the form with the information about the Mass recipient. Return the form along with a check for $40. Any surplus funds support Order of Malta ministries.
“We’ve had nothing but positive feedback,” said Peter Kelly, MD GCM, President of the Order of Malta, American Association, who uses the cards often. “People are impressed both with the appearance of the cards and the fact that the enrollment forms are brought to the grotto.”
