Description

House of the Good Shepherd specializes in returning dignity and function to people whose lives are limited by homelessness, poverty, food insecurity, lack of education, unhealthy living conditions and especially the debilitating trauma and isolation of domestic violence. House of the Good Shepherd offers a comprehensive, curative program over and above immediate, short-term safety. In addition to meeting urgent security needs, House of the Good Shepherd’s intensive recovery program:

  1. Promotes healing and recovery for the mothers and children they serve
  2. Enables the women to develop independence and self-sufficiency
  3. Empowers the women to break the cycle of abuse.

The Illinois Area of the American Association will pair with the Federal Association in Illinois to renovate a building intended to housing. The project will take place in two phases. Phase 1 will be to clean, repair and paint Building #1 in the House of the Good Shepherd complex. Phase 1 work will take place on Saturday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., beginning 9/9/17, and will continue for several months. Once Phase 1 is complete, Phase 2 will be comprised of establishing programs for residents which address basic life skills, legal assistance, and medical needs.
