About the Order The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilization. The 13,500 Knights and Dames remain true to its principles – nurturing, witnessing and protecting the faith and serving the poor and the sick.

Welcome to the website of the Ohio Area of the American Association of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta. Our area is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, but has members throughout Ohio and Northern Kentucky. The Ohio Area currently has approximately 50 Knights, Dames, and Auxiliary Members. Our members volunteer to care for the sick, the poor, and the imprisoned in our community. We support charitable projects such as the St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy and Ruah Woods. Our prison ministry works to deliver SMOM Bibles and Prayerbooks to inmates, which aids them in establishing a relationship with Christ and His Church. In witness to the Catholic Christian faith, we participate in a variety of special Masses, retreats, and prayer groups throughout the year. Members also support worldwide relief efforts of the Order, the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, and the Order’s annual pilgrimage to take the sick to Lourdes. The Auxiliary of the Ohio Area labors to support the work of the Order spiritually and temporally.
