About the Order The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilization. The 13,500 Knights and Dames remain true to its principles – nurturing, witnessing and protecting the faith and serving the poor and the sick.

Welcome to the Cleveland Area website. We are proud to be the newest Area of the American Association, established in 2024!

While our members primarily reside in the Diocese of Cleveland, we welcome members of other dioceses throughout northern Ohio. We are committed in today’s world to be true to the Order’s dual mission: to Defend the Faith, and to Serve the Poor and the Sick. Our members are involved in a variety of charitable activities throughout the Area, as well as national and international projects of the Order of Malta. In witness to the Catholic faith, we participate in a variety of special Masses, retreats and seminars throughout the year. Active defense of the Faith as defined by the Magisterial teachings of the Church is paramount to our identity as Knights and Dames of the Order of Malta.
