In Service of the Poor and the Sick

Purpose of the Journey

This pilgrimage is not a hike or athletic challenge alone. It is an act of service, humility, endurance, and spiritual presence. Participants will walk approximately 100 km over 7 days, assisting disabled pilgrims by pulling/pushing specialized mono-wheel wheelchairs for approximately 10 miles per day in summer conditions. Pods usually consist of a disabled pilgrim, their personal caregiver and at least 4 volunteers, along with a team doctor, nurse and American Association Chaplain.

Health & Practical Considerations

  • Medical clearance if required
  • Ability to manage personal health needs independently
  • Comfort with simple living conditions and limited privacy
  • Willingness to abstain from substances that impair judgment
