Description

Surplus books are collected from Connecticut Public Library Book Sales and deliver them prisons in Connecticut. The program currently partners with 10-15 active libraries, mostly within Fairfield county. Books are delivered to 16 prisons in CT and 1-2 in NYS (women’s prison in Bedford hills). The donations can only be made quarterly. The coordinator works closely with prison chaplains to configure the distribution of books and coordinate orders for Malta bibles and prayer books. Between the Malta bibles, prayer books, and donations, there are about 8,000 book donations per year.

Activities Members Are Involved In

Members acquire and distribute mostly paperback books for safety purposes. Popular topics include: religion, business, novels, self-help, parenting, and relationships. More than 5,000 books (in 2019 alone) have been delivered to 13 prisons across CT. Chaplains are also providing bibles and prayer books.
