The Michigan Area hosted their annual retreat on Saturday, October 23rd at the Solanus Casey Center in Detroit. Father Joseph Johnson, ChM, a Minnesota Area Chaplain led the retreat, attended by over 50 members and guests. 

Fr. Johnson shared a wonderful message with attendees regarding the Church’s theme this year on St. Joseph. We looked at St. Joseph through the lens of “confronting our fears” in these troubling times, focusing on his traits, righteousness, trust, obedience, and silence. So often when we pray, we are asking God for what we want versus listening to God’s desires for us in silence. Father Joseph pointed out that when we sit down to pray, we should take scripture and let God’s words speak to us as part of our prayer time.

This year’s retreat revolved not only around only Father Joseph’s meditations, but the Adoration and Mass, celebrated in the Monastery Chapel in front of the altar where Blessed Solanus Casey prayed. The pace and cadence of our day was just what we needed to have a meaningful retreat experience.
