Members of the Philadelphia Area Have Been Busy in May!

05/19/2022

We gathered for our monthly First Saturday Salve Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Overbrook, Philadelphia, with Father Daniel Bowen, O. de M.,  presiding. After a quick brunch, we completed our service project, this month assembling blessing bags with provisions for homeless people.  Toiletries and sundries, socks and other basic provisions, and snacks and rosaries, (OF COURSE!) were packed up and delivered to the Sisters of Charity in Norristown, PA, who serve the homeless each day. They love being able to give their clients something extra special, and the recipients very much appreciate these provisions and supplies.

Last Saturday, many Knights and Dames attended the Archdiocese’s Holy Mass with transitional diaconate ordinations at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Archbishop Nelson Perez presided. We were pleased to welcome seven new deacons as they continue their paths towards priesthood.

Then on Sunday, members of the Order of Malta, American Association joined local members of the Federal Association to celebrate Holy Mass with associate chaplain Father Matthew Brody, in his new assignment at Saint Richard Church, South Philadelphia. Fr. Brody impressed us all with his bilingual messages during Holy Mass, as he honored the historically Irish and Italian roots of his congregation. Knights and Dames enjoyed a brief reception at the rectory, and more conviviality, great food, and live music at the Festa San Marziale festival which followed.
