Southeast Florida Area Prays the Rosary with Residents of Our Diocese’s Senior Housing Facilities

08/03/2023

One of the many blessings of being part of the Rosary Ministry is praying with the over-62 population residing in the Diocese of Palm Beach sponsored affordable housing facilities. We introduced the ministry first to Villa Madonna and are planning to include the two other villas in our area.

What started as simply praying the Rosary together has morphed into a real happy hour (no rosé, the Rosary is intoxicating on its own).  We bring treats to share after prayer and otherwise enjoy delicious conversations with our new friends. Going around the room for everyone to state their personal intentions for the Rosary that day in addition to the Order’s prayers for the sick and the poor, connects us on an even deeper level. Even the two managers of the facility join us in prayer every time, bringing Madonnas and other religious statues and items they have in their offices to add to the table we sit around to eat, pray and love.

Most of the residents are Spanish-speakers, so it’s great that some of our ministry members can pray and converse in the language they understand. And they are stylish too! We’ve noticed that the residents get dressed up for our time together. The sense of purpose through praying the Rosary for others and being part of a community with others where all are heard and seen means so much to God’s children who may otherwise feel isolated and disconnected to something bigger.

As we say our goodbyes, the residents want to know the exact date and time when we’ll be there next as they really look forward to our visits. And so do we!
