Order of Malta Celebrates Saint John’s Day in Philadelphia

07/03/2026

Members of the Order of Malta gathered in Philadelphia to celebrate the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, patron of the Order, with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and a joyful reception honoring fellowship and service.

During his homily, Father Matthew Brody, Ch de M, reflected on the enduring message of Saint John the Baptist: “He must increase, I must decrease.” He encouraged Knights and Dames to embrace this spirit of humility and selfless service as they live out their vocation within the Order. The Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Overbrook, Philadelphia, with Deacon Roger Converse assisting. At its conclusion, members were invited to renew the promises they made at their Investiture.

Following Mass, clergy, Knights, Dames, and guests from both the American Association and the Federal Association gathered at International Institute of Culture, Ivy Hall for a reception marking the feast day. The celebration included recognition of members celebrating milestone anniversaries of service to the Order, including 5, 10, 15, and even 35 years of membership.

The afternoon was filled with gratitude, fellowship, and joyful camaraderie, providing a fitting conclusion to a day dedicated to honoring Saint John the Baptist and renewing the commitment to the Order’s mission of service to the poor and the sick.
