Michigan Area welcomes new chaplain, 10 new Dames and Knights, at 2025 investiture weekend; presentation on Michigan Area’s Malta Dental and Medical Clinic is highlight of business meeting

11/22/2025

The Michigan Area’s “Class of 2025” was received into the Order at the November 15 Investiture Mass in New York City. The 11-member Michigan “class” – including a new chaplain, plus 10 Dames and Knights – represents 10 percent of all newly-invested members in the American Association.

Invested at St. Patrick’s Cathedral were Rosanne Brugnoni, DM; David Closs, KM; Noel Closs, DM; Chuck Gaidaca, KM; David Hocker, KM; Kodah Maida, KM; Rev. John Maksym, ChD; Hon. Michael Riordan, KM; June Rutkowski, DM; Stanley Sedore, KM; and Sean Shriner, KM.

Also attending the investiture weekend were Michigan Area members Dr. Ed Jelonek, KM;  Hospitaller Kathleen Mastrangelo, DM; Area Chair Andy Smith, KM, and Andrea Smith, DM; and past Area Co-Chairs Barbara Wilson, DM, and Robert Wilson, KM.

Another highlight of the investiture weekend: At the Association’s business meeting, David Hocker and Dr. Jelonek gave a presentation on the Malta Dental and Medical Clinic, a ministry of the Michigan Area. Beginning with the Clinic’s founding in 2004 by the late Louis Mahoney, KM, the presentation covered the Clinic’s work for the sick and poor of Detroit. Dr. Jelonek is the Clinic’s medical director and David Hocker is the Clinic’s new president, succeeding the long-serving Thomas Larabell, KM. The Michigan Area will hold its final meeting of 2025 on December 6, with Mass at the Grosse Pointe Academy Chapel. The celebrant will be His Excellency Allen H. Vigneron, GCChC, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Michigan Area’s principal chaplain. Brunch will follow at the Country Club of Detroit.
