The NYC Area’s monthly Sing-Along at TCC’s Mother Cabrini Specialty Hospital brought the joyful sounds of the season on Saturday, December 6th. Our annual tradition breaks from the regular monthly songbook in order to fill the hearts (and deck the halls) of the residents who are mostly young people with severe lifelong disabilities in permanent care at the specialty hospital. Visiting volunteers from the NYC Area Order of Malta membership and affiliates also wore festive attire, Santa hats, and Christmastime costumes for the singing and revelries with the residents.
A strong showing of NYC Area Auxiliary are always present for the Sing-Alongs each month, while about half of participants are Knights and Dames of Malta. Over time, the Sing-Alongs have served as one of the frequent points of entry for interested volunteers to get to know the work of the Order of Malta. Usually held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the beginning of each month, new volunteers are welcome to sign up here in advance and may reach out with any questions.
In the Advent season and at Christmas, we also give thanks to our many volunteers and great supporters. We are thankful for our gifted piano accompanists including—this past Saturday—Connor Patrick, as well as Afton Boggiano and Mary Fedrigo and we appreciate the numerous volunteers, supportive TCC staff, and donors big and small as this wonderful Area Work continues into a New Year. Most of all, the Sing-Along Coordinators and NYC Area are filled with gratitude for the joy that are the residents of the Mother Cabrini Specialty Hospital—each one is a blessing to us!
