The Connecticut North East Area of The Order of Malta, American Association is a thriving group in carrying out and supporting the key programs of the American Association in the Archdiocese of Hartford and the Diocese of Norwich. Members concentrate on the Order’s Spirituality events and other regular activities, such as: the Sunday Rosary and monthly Outreach webinars. We attend the Diocesan Chrism and Ordination Masses, the annual Association, retreats and an annual November Mass for Deceased members and family. The Area participates in the annual Pilgrimages to Lourdes and to Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, WI as well as participating in the Lourdes in a Day Mass for those in search of healing.
The Connecticut North East Area hosts three major meetings with Mass in Advent, Lent and the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, followed by sharing meals. Each starts with a brief period for business, and time for sharing our ministries. The thought-provoking reflections are given by Rev. Joseph L. MacNeill, ChD or special guest speakers. Finally, we attend the Investiture each November in New York City.
The Area distributes grants to our key ministries: Lourdes in a Day Spirituality and 5th Monday Malta, Old Lyme as well as St. Patrick, Mystic Outreach meals at the New London Community Meal Center. Members volunteer and generously support other ministries across our seven CT counties, such as: St. Gianna Pregnancy Resource Center, Birthright of Greater Westbrook, and Anti-Human Trafficking Centers, Diocesan Prison Ministries, retreat centers, Catholic Charities, three St. Vincent de Paul Places, YMCA vegetable garden for the Shoreline Pantry, Holy Apostles College & Seminary, the Ukrainian Relief project, the Haitian Health Foundation and the mission on the island of Jamaica.
