Boston Area Dame Evelyn Caron presented a grant on behalf of the Boston Area to Cor Unum Meal Center in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Father Paul O’Brien accepted the grant funds to assist in replacing Cor Unum’s commercial dishwasher after 15 years of constant use. Boston Area Chair Tommy Driscoll and Boston Area Grants Committee Chair Ed Delaney took part in the presentation of the grant award.
Established by Father O’Brien, pastor of neighboring St. Patrick’s Parish, Cor Unum’s mission is to ensure no person goes hungry in the greater Lawrence area, providing meals and the dignity of sit-down, restaurant-style and holiday meal services. Evie Caron has long kept the commitment by the Order of Malta in the Boston Area, coordinating volunteers to regularly assist at the center and serve meals. Established in 2006, Cor Unum serves approximately 250,000 meals each year. For more information, see https://www.corunummealcenter.org.

As well, Homeless Not Hopeless, Inc., was awarded grant funds to ensure the replacement of a gas furnace and hot water heater at one of the Cape Cod non-profit’s homes where women can learn occupational and life skills and increase their self-respect. Rev. Dcn. Richard Murphy and Boston Area Dame Theresa Brosnan, President and Director of Homeless Not Hopeless, respectively, received the grant check at Boston Area Chair Tommy Driscoll’s Cape Cod home earlier this summer.
Boston Area members Suzanne and Bob Downing, Theresa Brosnan, and Maureen Makkay applied for this grant. Homeless not Hopeless provides wholistic services, giving homeless women opportunities for learning and growth so that they can live independently, seek and gain employment, provide for themselves and dependents, conquer addiction, and lead healthy lives. Together with the homeless and formerly homeless, the organization also advocates for the needs of the homeless community. Learn more about them here: https://homelessnothopeless.org/about/
