The course with all modules and learning checks takes less than 2 hours to complete. This is a self-paced course that can be taken at any time once your portal access request is approved.
In this course, you will learn about the spirituality and history of Eucharistic Ministry in order to bring Holy Communion to Catholic residents in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as pray with interfaith residents.
This course begins with the roots of the Eucharist in the Old Testament and focuses on Jesus’ teachings in the Gospel of John as the historical and spiritual guide to our ministry.
Through understanding Who it is we bring as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion, we will learn how to care for Him as we minister to those in nursing homes and hospitals. This course will help you prepare yourself before you visit the residents, to know what to expect during a visit with a resident; the course also reviews special situations that may occur during a visit.
After the training, a participant will meet with the Eucharistic Ministry Coordinator in the Area to answer any questions and discuss service placement. Each facility will also have training on their protocols for safety and patient privacy.
At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion to be printed out and shared with the Eucharistic Ministry Coordinator in your Area. The certificate carries the signature of Rev. Dr. Jeffrey R. Trexler, ChDD.
If you need to register trained ministers with your diocese, please follow that process.
Get approval from your Bishop before use. Your chaplain may be helpful in obtaining the Bishop’s approval.
Once approved by the bishop’s office, share the course information with your area members
